The Aim
To explore the key issues, events and personalities that lead to the decline and fall of the Romanov Dynasty. Focus questions 1) To what extent did the reforms and death of Tsar Nicholas II affect the future rulers of Russia? 2) What were the political and social grievances of the Russian people during the late 19th and early 20th century? 3) How did the failure of Tsar Nicholas II to address the problems of Russia impact on the Romanov Dynasty? 4) To what extent was WW1 responsible for the decline and fall of the Romanovs? 5) Who was Rasputin, and how significant was he in the fall of the Romanov Dynasty? Relevance of the Topic
In studying the decline and fall of the Romanov Dynasty, students will analyse the continuity and change pertaining to the Russian economic, social and political spheres in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Forces behind this continuity and change will be explored with connections being made to Russia and the rest of the world. In undergoing this process students will be better able to understand the correlation between past and present societies and have the knowledge to more thoroughly understand and interpret contemporary economic, political and societal processes. |
