The Tsar's presence on the Eastern Front meant Alexandra was in command back on the home front, under the increasing influence of Rasputin. Russian society already had some hostility to the "German" Tsarina, which was only made worse by Rasputin's influence over her. Alexandra was "dangerous" to her husband because of her German blood. As such, she was an easy target for rumours and accusations of treason (Lieven, 1993, p. 226).
